About Us
In This Corner, No One Fights Alone.
Our Story
In This Corner, Inc. is a neurological boxing gym and restoration center founded to create a community aimed toward changing the lives of our members in Volusia County through specialized and diagnosis-specific exercise programs.
We believe in the wide range of therapeutic benefits from high-intensity boxing programs and fitness groups. Our team of coaches have been certified in several programs that use research-based exercises and techniques to empower our members to maintain their independence, improve their quality of life, and their engagement in the community!
We rely on community support, donations, and grants to sustain our operations, ensure safety, and maximize accessibility of these unique and valuable services to those in need.

Our History

Our journey began in January 2018 when Founder, Marianne Chapin, became a certified coach and affiliate for Rock Steady Boxing (RSB), an international program for People with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). It was a meeting with a young woman diagnosed with early onset PD looking for help as she navigated her diagnosis that fired the passion to search options. Within a few short weeks, they traveled together to Rock Steady Boxing Headquarters in Indianapolis to learn more about this high-intensity boxing program designed to help mitigate the symptoms of PD.
RSB~NSB (New Smyrna Beach) was the first established non-contact boxing program in Volusia County to provide the disease-specific RSB program. Within 3 months, we outgrew the first gym location, however it would not be the last move, as we continue to grow and attract attention from the local Parkinson’s community. In July of 2018, we received our IRS status as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and a grant of $30,000 from Home Instead Senior Care of Daytona Beach, thus marking the official beginning of In This Corner, Inc!
We grew quickly into the thriving, hardworking, fun family that it is today! Since our founding, we have expanded our reach to include an Ormond Beach RSB location. We brought Yoga/Dance classes for PD, support groups facilitated by licensed social workers, and social events into our gyms to offer opportunities for hundreds of People with Parkinson’s throughout Volusia County. And we are still growing!
In 2024, we began expanding our impact to other neurological populations with the addition of new programs - Down To Box and Drums Alive. Down To Box is a specialized program for individuals with Down Syndrome to promote cardiovascular health, coordination, muscular strength, improved focus and social support. Drums Alive is a fun, cardiovascular program that combines music and rhythm to enhance physical, mental, and cognitive wellbeing to the general public.
